Automatic feeders

Just wondering if anyone has one of these and if so, what make and would you recommend it?

We plan to use it at night as our elderly cat can be very demanding, and my partner does not get much sleep as he has to get out of bed several times to feed her (I sleep through it all!)

She has wet food not dry.

  • Hi

We have used these in the past and found them to be very useful, could quite happily use them set up for a day if we went out. Does your cat eat all put before it or graze? The only down side that we found is that if they leave some it will cover that up and may smell. You can get ones that you can put a cool block under helping to keep food fresh in warm weather.

    Hope this. Helps :)
  • I used to use one for this exact reason and it worked a treat. Do you have any other pets that may get to the food before her though?

I tried two types - this one I thought would be better as the timer was digital but they soon learned how to prise it open http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/8706492.htm

This one only has an anaolgue timer but they've not been able to crack it open http://www.tesco.com/direct/cat-mate-feeder-c20/701-5982.prd They also do a single serving version, the C10.

You can probably get it cheaper elsewhere, I just picked the first link google came up with

There is a stray that comes in and eats her food, but he will wait until she has finished before eating the left overs.

We do have another cat but he tends to only eat dry food.

Our plan is to have it upstairs anyway, as the stray cat only comes into the kitchen.
  • I've never used a timed feeder, but some friends of mine that do recommend putting food in frozen or partially defrosted to keep it fresh, if that is going to be a problem.

I don't think it will be, as it will only be at night.
