I've had one of these for a while now, in black, not sure if they're discontinued but still available if prepared to search. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nikon-COOLPIX-L810-Compact-Digital/dp/B0071L3JTU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1391520131&sr=8-2&keywords=nikon+l810+16mp+bridge+camera
    Different model in black. http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/1293005.htm#pdpFullProductInformation
An excellent camera for the price and uses AA batteries. It seems to be very economical on power. Still using the supplied batteries in spite of using the flash and no other option but the rear display (no viewfinder).

For AA batteries I recommend Sanyo eneloop rechargeable batteries. These hold their charge very well. I have used them for several years in a Canon Powershot 720.

Make sure you buy them from a reliable source as there may be fakes about.

I am looking for a new camera as well but why are most opposed to using AA batteries.

I have an Olympus C765 which uses special lithium batteries of which I have 3 and even fully charged I am lucky if I can take a couple of photos before the camera shuts down with no battery.

I don't know if it is the charger, the batteries or the camera but it would be more economic for me to buy a new camera than replace the batteries and charger.

At least with AA batteries you can always get them easily when you can't charge up your battery.

I'd suggest you have a problem with your equipment. It could be any one of the 3 things you suggest, but most likely the batteries (are they all original Olympus). No one has said they're opposed to using AA batteries, that I can see. I stated that my preference has always been for Lithium-Ion batteries as they actually hold a charge for a longer period of time, unlike rechargeable AAs where the charge trickles away a lot quicker. Of course you can buy a 40-pack of AAs and keep them with you and bin them when they're dead, but that isn't my preference.

A Good Lithium-Ion should give you 500+ shots, and easily last 2/3 months sitting in my kit bag charged and ready.

I know that, that is why I am looking for a new camera.

You asked why people were opposed to AA batteries. I gave you a full answer as to why I'm opposed to them and explained that if your lithium batteries die so quickly it's due to an equipment failure. I wasn't trying to insult your intelligence, simply stating that it isn't indicative of Lithium Ion batteries to behave that way (unless very old).
