borrowed this laptop as I got the message "The user Profile Service sevice failed the login" User profile cannot be loaded on mine.

I have searched google and seen answers using F10, F11 anf F8 keys, go under "safe mode" etc.:(

BUT

When i switch on, I am asked for my password, I cannot get passed this to try anything else.

I need step by step, key by key instructions as I am a very basic user.:o

Hope someone can help, as i am desperate.
Looking forward to the day I have nothing left to list on eBay

No, switched on, booted up waited till asked for password, then pressed, f10, f11 and then f8.

Will try your suggestion now, thanks

Yes, that worked, then I chose system repair, then I signed in, then I chose "restore to a date that worked", then asked for my password - guess what - got same message as first time.

    Back to square one.

You haven't got Caps Lock on by any chance? That would make your password be entered as all capitals.

Sorry but that's far too vague to be of any use to those trying to help you. On my laptop, tapping the caps lock key causes a little light on it to light. Tap it again and it goes out. Can you confirm that you definitely know how to turn caps lock on and off on your pc and that it is definitely turned off when trying to enter the password?

Caps lock keys are !!!!, aren't they? Who actually uses them? PRESUMABLY PEOPLE WHO WRITE POSTINGS LIKE THIS.

I re-use the caps lock key as a control key, mimicing the layout of the One True Keyboard, the Sun Type 3 and its cousins.

Also, if I enter my password in caps - a little message comes up underneath the space I type in my password which states
"Caps locks are on" so yes I do know how to turn caps lock on and off.

So I can confirm I do know how and when they are on.

When you're asked for your password, just press enter. There might not be one.
