Options
Hello folks

I need to reset the admin password on my Dell Inspiron latop. Can anyone advise me or do I have to take it to a repair shop?

Many Thanks

Start > Control Panel > User Accounts

You can change it there. (If you're signed in as an Administrator).
You can lose a loose goose.

Get it? Now use it before you lose it.
    or - Try
using it - not losing it. ;)

Thanks for the reply. I don't have the admin password so I can't use that method?

There should not be a way to recover the Admin password really or it is a bit pointless having it, but google something like "recover windows 7 admin password" for hundreds of ways to try and people trying to sell you dodgy software that *might* work.
My preferred method is just wipe the hard drive and re-install the operating system.
Would you say that to a stranger's face in the street? No? Then why type it on a forum?

How technical are you? There are various boot disks you can use including using the standard Windows 7 DVD (to access command prompt and replace the sticky keys exe with a command prompt) but it depends how comfortable you are creating your own boot discs and using the the tools on them.

What exactly do you mean by the admin password?

If you mean the password for the hidden 'Administrator' account it doesn't have one by default.

That account is also disabled by default, so you can't change the password on it unless it has been enabled.
