Moneyexpert/unsolicited calls

Hi all,

I love this site - spot on what Martin says about people power, and great to see somebody empowering the people to stand up against the greedy and corrupt.

However, I did a search for a loan today on moneyexpert (not this site the other one wth the annoyingly similar name;)) - sort of on a whim (after a lifetime of poverty, struggling and dealing with scum I am now very lucky to be relatively worry, and completely debt, free ), and...well here is the e-mail of complaint I sent (My 'x's):

Dear Sir,

After doing a quick search on your site, I was shocked and dismayed to find that someone from an unsolicited company had called me a few hours later.

I have no 'debts' and do not need a consolidation loan: I clicked that
rather than 'other' because I was looking for a loan to assist towards
XXXXXXXXX, but also looking to pay off a small XXXXXXX - I
do not need the services of a company that has the demeanour of an
outfit that gets most of its custom from bothering the desperate poor
on daytime television! I would rather wait and save.

I was also perturbed to find that, when my daughter realised I was outand told the caller so, he practically accused her of being a liar! I
guessed straight away what had happened and when I went to e-mail you I saw that I had an e-mail from xxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxx (Consolidators of debt).

I am 'ex-directory', and this incident has caused my family and myself stress.

Please remove me from your records, and inform any companies to whom you have sold my details to do the same.

I am a busy professional who values his 'quiet time'; hence my number being ex-directory. I have not had a sales call in over three years: I trust that I will receive no more calls of this nature. I have kept a record of this correspondence.

Regards,

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

I thought this kind of thing was what Martin was against, and I am sure that he would disapprove?

This comes on the back of me being relentlessly pursued, completely erroneously, for a debt for someone with my name, so I am full of righteous indignation! (By the way, while I am here, not sure that is completely over yet - I have been assured so five times and then had a scum-a-gram again. I will probably be seeking advice about them soon: they are mentioned in at leat one thread I know of).

Keep on keeping on :money:,

Bandini.

If you don't want to be called maybe you shouldn't hand out your telephone number to web sites on a whim.

Hmmmm. Normally I wouldn't hand my number over to a web site; on a whim or otherwise - as I implied before, I trust Martin Lewis, and I did not expect a site he recommended to sell my phone number: doesn't really fit his ethos does it?

Glad I could indulge your desire to be a supercillious clever clogs though!:T

I just received another call askng me to take part in a survey; disappointing that after three years of no nuisance calls, I am now on a 'suckers list' thanks to following a link from this site. Not the end of the world, but irritating.

What does anybody else think - is that kind of practice acceptable?

I really don't think that Mr Lewis himself can advocate that kind of behaviour. Incidentally I have not received a reply from the offending site.

Comparison sites have to make money some how. They allow people to find the best deals but in return take commission.

I presume when you entered your details there would have been small print about how your details are used, which you would have agreed to.

Absolutely not trolling. I feel very strongly in favour of this site, since using it to claim bank charges and seeing all the other good work. It is still right to question behaviour that is less than transparent isn't it? The small print may be there, but it must be very small.

I realise I had posted in the wrong thread - but I will have a look now. Thanks.

Doesn't it say that 'There's no such thing as a stupid question...'? The previous poster seemed to think that there was.

I was pointing out the fact that 3 days ago you said you had done the search on the site concerned on that day, then you are back today saying you did it today

    just seemed odd to me.....

was NOT saying it was a stupid question , purely pointing out the fact that you had started 3 threads about the same thing and that Martin had replied in one, thought that was helpful ??

Sorry Browntoa, I was referring to Reaper as supercillious etc.

The paranoia is confusing me!!! I am not a 'troll' - I posted in one thread, realised it was the wrong thread, and then posted it in another thread. No conspiracy! Sorry!

Perhaps you could point out where Martin recommends this Moneyexpert site.

Also could you clarify that you indeed did read the T&C's and Privacy Policy of the other site BEFORE submitting your personal details.
    I have a cunning plan!
Proud to be dealing with my debts.

    It was here, I think:

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/loans/cheap-personal-loans

    - but it seems to have gone. The 'smartsearch' link is still there. I am guessing that Martin has acted on the info on here? If so - nice one! At least no one else will get stung and, at the very worst it will cost me a few quid to change me number.

No, I didn't read the terms and conditions - silly I know, but like I have said before, I trust Martin Lewis and this site: the fact that he appears to have removed the link has borne out this trust; I believe it was an oversight and he has removed it.

I must say I am a bit surprised at the supercillious tone of some of the messages I have received: ok I did not go through the small print with a fine tooth comb - I thought a link from here would be 'up front'. But it doesn't make me a bad man!

    Peace,
    Bandini.
