Driving Licence Photo Renewal

Just received a form saying I need to renew the photo on my driving licence but the form is confusing!

I went and got some photos from a booth without fully reading the form and when I read "how and where to apply" it seems to say I can only apply at a post office branch where apparently they will take my photo (for another £4.50 on top of the £20 fee) and 'process' my form.

Under "apply by post" is says "if you are changing your name and are unable to use the above options use this form" although the form also says not to fill in the "new details" section if my details haven't changed as if you can use it for just changing the photo!

Does anyone know if you are permitted to just send the paper form in yourself with your own photo if changing only the photo? Thanks

I filled in mine the other week, as your renewing you only fill out a small amount and send a photo with the cheque to Dvla. New one came about 4 days later i dont use the post office as they dont open when it convenient for me.
  • If ur passport photo is fairly recent you can do it online and just tick on the use passport photo. Can't remember how recent it has to be tho.

Just go to a local post office.

They take a digital picture for you there and then

Pay the fee and get your licence back in a few days.

Mine took less than a week and i changed address at the same time

I have a recent new passport but couldn't remember the password for the noline government website.

    So just used the PO

    Painless and easy

    Whats not to like

The whole going to the post office bit?

I think remembering your password and doing it via a tick box online is a hundred times better.
  • Not all post offices offered the service when I renewed, but I'd say it's better to give the PO the extra £4.50, rather than take the chance that your picture's rejected.
