Looking for advice for my computer

Options
Looking for advice please . Computers are not my strong point . Up until recently we have had a "family" computer set up. Mrs Greenface wanted her dining room back so it all got packed away and put in the loft (monitor ,mothership, keyboard and mouse etc .) Now then i am trying to sell on ebay .The problem is the photos are on the mothership . Do i need to set the whole lot up again or can i plug the mothership into the laptop (acer aspire) and get them that way ? or i have a iPod touch . With the same photos that i need taken off the mothership last year. Can i upload from my iPod the pics onto my lappy . ? From memory there is an external hard-drive upstairs too that was attached to the mothership will that be helpful for me.? thanks in advance . Please . there is no such thing as a stupid question from me i really am so not with gadgety stuff . In short whats the best way to get some photos from a computer base in the loft.

You really ought to wipe the hard drive of the "mothership" before you sell it as it will have all kinds of personal data on it. If google "how to wipe a hard drive" there are plenty of walk through guides and Youtube videos explaining how to do it.

If you want to transfer stuff to the laptop, the easiest way would be to buy or borrow a memory stick and use that for copying the files off the mothership and then onto the laptop.
  • if you want to sell it you should clean all your stuff off the hard drive first anyway, so setting it all up again would be your best bet.

however, you'll probably be lucky to get £50, more like £20 if its old, so perhaps give it to charity and save yourself a lot of bother!

copy the data to the external hard drive, and/or burn the data to a dvd

copy the data from external HD to the machine you want to keep, leaving it on the external HD for backup

Check you have all the data, and can read it

factory restore (google it or see speedup sticky) the machine you are going to sell, then install ccleaner, tick wipe free space option, run ccleaner, and sell
