Broken Pandora bracelet. Out of warranty but repetitive fault

I'm after some advice regarding my Pandora bracelet. I was originally given the bracelet 3 years ago but after 18 months one of the charm refused to come off the bracelet. The shop agreed it was a fault and replaced both the bracelet and the charm in question. Fast forward another 18 months and the same fault had occurred again. Took it back to Pandotra who now tell me that I have to pay for the repair and if they send it away it could take up to 6 weeks! Surely if they've replaced it before and admitted fault they should do so again? Is it possible I could claim unfit for purpose as you don't expect to replace an expensive bracelet every 18 months. They advertise the concept of Pandora as building memories so surely it should be more durable than this?

If Pandora don't back down (they don't have to) then the onus is on you to prove that the fault was inherent to the bracelet/charm/combination of both as youve had it over 6 months.

You need an independent report. The same thing happening twice doesn't prove anything sadly, as they could claim the bracelet was misused.

How is the charm stuck on the bracelet?
  • It's cross threaded but they think it's partly a problem with the bracelet too as the other charms are a bit stiff coming off. Can't believe that each bracelet has only lasted a y year and a half considering how much they cost and Pandora advertise them as a way of collecting memories.

I have never really been interested in these bracelets but how often do you actually take the charms on and off? Do you not just add your new ones on?

Are they designed to be so frequently taken on and off (as you appear to describe)

I thought they just slid on and rattled around until it was full, but like I said I've never looked into them. The bit about collecting memories is just sales patter to make you buy charms rather than a statement of longevity, but I would expect most bracelets to last longer than 1.5 years, but how much has it been messed with?
  • The charms go on via a small screwthread at the end. This charm gets stuck on the thread and won't budge. I very rarely take the charms on and off and was only moving it about as I got a new charm for Christmas. I don't sleep in my bracelet or do sport in it so it's not had a battered about life!!

I think you missed the bit where the OP said they were given the bracelet.

OP, did the purchaser obtain a gift receipt at the time of sale? Or did they give you any receipt at all?

  • I have both the receipt for the original bracelet and the new receipt they gave me after replacing the bracelet and charm the first time the fault occurred. Pandora are claiming 12months warranty only however this didn't appear to be an issue last time this happened as they replaced both the bracelet and the charm.

Did you buy it directly from pandora? Or just one of their stockists?

Unusual for the same thing to happen twice.

I've had a Pandora bracelet for years and haven't had any problems like this. I take the charms off occasionally to clean them. Have you googled to see if anyone else has had the same issue ?
  • It was bought directly at a Pandora store and Google does show silimar weaknesses in the chards and bracelet.
