Get off your high horse. What would you have done? Sat there and crossed your fingers?
Despite it being non-compliant with the highway code, it's perfectly reasonable to try draw attention with the horn in such situation!

Its more that being non compliant with the highway code.

Use only while your vehicle is moving and you need to warn other road users of your presence. Never sound your horn aggressively. You MUST NOT use your horn
    • while stationary on the road
    • when driving in a built up area between the hours of 11.30 pm and 7.00 am
except when another vehicle poses a danger.
    Law CUR reg 99

    It's an offence.

The driver knew where the person on the left live so why not just go and ask them to more?

Why be a knob and sit there sounding the horn, which was completely unnecessary? Its a cul-de-sac with 14 houses so not hard to trace the driver.

When your oh hooted the horn three times what response was he hoping for, the 8 year old to move the car?
used to be quite common on tight cul de sacs, where every one made an effort with their neighbors.
  • There are plenty of "invisible dent repair" companys out there who will fix the problem for £50 or so.

It simply isn't worth your time stressing over it, phone up Chipsaway/Dentwizard or show your true Moneysaving credentials by Boosting your Tesco Clubcard points X3 and using Revive! Auto innovations :).

So do what instead.. Knock on all 14 doors in turn until you get the right house? Ye a great alternative. I wouldn't want pipping outside my house - but if you knocked on my door at that time of night I'd be fuming.!

Just because she knew whoes car was on the left doesn't mean that person would know whoes the car is or even be happy being disturbed.

    Frankly, unlawful, who cares.
  • You should count yourself lucky that no one accused you of anything towards the child when you opened the car door.

Forget it and either get it fixed or just leave it as it is only a small dent
    Owing on CC £00.00 :j

    Op-

Tell this woman you are contacting her insurer if she fails to make a contribution. Explain to her if she hasn't reported the incident to them there is a chance they will cancel the policy for non-disclosure and even if she doesn't she'll have to declare the incident for the next 5 years.

A bit of scare mongering will do no harm

Do tell, what time of night was it?

Can't have been that late if a two year old was still up. If your vehicle was causing an obstruction would you not expect a knock on the door?

Your whole point for op to have not pipped revolves around two points of the law... Time restrictions which knocking on doors is even more ridiculous and the not using the horn whilst stationary which frankly is ridiculous also. Op didn't know where the owner was or that kids was in the car until after events started unfolding so expecting op to knock on the door.... What door!

Sounds like you think it's acceptable to a) block a road and b) not take responsibility for your actions. So if you think this woman has a right to be wound up because op pipped her horn as per your post then who cares, it's her own doing.

Leading back to my original point - even if it breaks the law, op pressing the horn was an appropriate way of getting attention. The Highway Code in particular often seems to take a one size fits all to driving when life doesn't always work like that.

Can't believe your defending this silly woman on the grounds op used her horn illegally.

If they could drive into a gap wide enough to open a door and get out of, why couldn't they drive through.

Because cars have wing mirrors. Guessing your not a motorist or you've taken a few of these off in your time ;)
