Edit - just seen post directly above, I guess that's not much more is it - lots to think about!!
Get some quotes for double and triple.
What costs more is the frames, profile, openings etc.
My triple glazed downstairs windows cost more than upstairs, because they are ALU clad hardwood.
Upstairs are UPC so cheaper anyway.
But its true the best price I got for double glazed was £250 less than best price for triple.63 mortgage payments to go.

Is it possible that at some point, improvements to the window make no difference because the walls let in a certain amount of noise?
There is a big condenser fan very close to our end-terrace bedroom wall in which there is no window.
The window is 'round the back', maybe 10-15 feet away from the fans, and we are trying to figure out whether a thicker window (it is double-glazed) will help? Given that the fans are actually right outside the wall of the house, just below where our heads are in bed?0
