Need a mattress supplier who takes the old one away

As the title says, I'm looking for a new mattress, but want the supplier to dispose of the old one for me. I know a lot of companies won't do this.

Any suggestions please?

Why don't you. Get your council to take the old one away?

    You beat me to it.
Most councils have a scheme..... Mine allow one free pick up a year of three items -prebooked ...if you want more than one a year you pay £18 for additional pick ups of up to three large items.
Where I used to live had a skip scheme for the free pick ups. Every few months on a rotational basis skips would appear in all the roads of a particular area for everyone to use. I was great because most people would only put the real rubbish actually into the skip and anything that might be useful was usually placed to the side ....sofas, beds, china, , lamps . I actually know someone who furnished their entire flat from following the skip route and gradually picking up all the essentials as well as pictures and even pots for their garden. I think that is a great idea as we all get rid of a lot of bits and pieces that could do someone else a turn.

Our council only offers a free service to it's tenants.

Why not choose some dealers and give them a call to ask whether they remove and if there is a fee for this ?

Because I'd have to leave it in the front garden for up 10 days before they collect it. Not a pretty sight. Besides, it's a memory foam one which is very heavy. I am lacking in muscles!

I've found a mattress at Tesco Direct that offers a 'collect & recycle' service for an extra £30. I'll probably go for that.

I hope they deliver quickly. I've now got terrible back pain as the memory foam has suddenly 'failed' and just dips in the middle. Before last night it was ok. Might have to move to the spare bedroom until a new one comes.

I'm not going for memory foam again. Nice while it lasts, but a pain in the back when it's past it.:(

John Lewis will recycle for £25 and lots of charities will collect for free if in good condition

Is the mattress in good condition? If so, Freecycle might be an option. When I bought a new sofa I stipulated to the taker what day the old one was available so I didn't end up without anything to sit on too!

I don't know if they have country wide branches or are just in my part of the world, but Bedpost take away old beds/mattresses when buying a new one from them.

Other than that, Cazza's suggestion of freecycle is excellent. I've got rid of so much bulky, but still useable stuff by advertising it on freecycle.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

No -it's not in good condition. I would be sentencing whoever had it to chronic back pain. It dips in the middle. But thanks anyway for the suggestions.
