Thanks and so sorry to hear you have the the dreaded FMA too ,I must admit I have been lucky with the amount of support I have had since my diagnosis.
I partly decided I needed to get my debt under control because not only is it stressing me out I am also worried because I have had a bad few months with increased symptoms at times and I wanted to make sure I had my finances under control in case I have to cut down my hours at work, I am not anywhere near doing that yet but thought it best to plan ahead:)

First an AAAARRRGGGHHH moment, last week I applied for a cc from one company to do a 0% interest free balance transfer I didn't hear anything back from them and I didn't want to wait around because I was trying to transfer the balance way before the payment was due so the payment could go to the new card, sooooo I applied for another online and got accepted straight away and its for two months longer than the original one, then this morning I got a letter telling me that I have been accepted for the first card I applied for andthat they had transferred the balance, I just checked and the balances have not been transferred yet. I have really mucked that up and now don't know what to do!
In other news I have had a busy day today I went out shopping first thing this morning because I wanted to make cottage pie for tea but didn't have any potatoes, I also wanted to get two ingredients so I could make a ginger cake that someone posted a link to on here, I went to Aldi and got all my bits including some stuff I didn't get the other day and it came to £14 that means with the shopping DD did yesterday our shopping for the week has come to £28 which is unbelievable, I couldnt get my Redbush T bags in Adli but on the way home I passed the 99P Store and they had some Tetly ones in there, the only thing I am going to have to buy this week now will be milk so that is much better than usual
I then came home and thoroughly cleaned out the chickens and they got to run round the garden for a bit, I got 6 lovely eggs from them today which are lovely and tasty, after the chickens it was my houses turn so that got a going over and two loads of washing were done, its then chucked it down so the washing is now hanging on airers to dry
I then settled down with a nice coffee in the warm and knitted three more squares for my Battersea Blanket
Tea was cottage pie from quorn mince I had in the freezer and some of the spuds I bought this morning, I made enough for me to take some to work tomorrow and for DD to have for her tea when she gets in from work. I also made the ginger cake and it is yuuummmmyyyy I had most of the ingredients in the cupboard apart from caster sugar and Bicard of soda so it didn't cost much to make and I know its not full of lots of additives
I am now chilling out in bed and checking out the site, I haven't felt that good today and have had a lot of pain in one of my legs ,so I thought I would have a nice shower and get in bed early so I can relax and just go to sleep when I am tired , I normally stay downstairs until late then get tired but remember I have loads to do before I go to bed this wakes me up and then I cant sleep and I end up going to bed really late
I have work tomorrow so have to be up at 05.40 to get ready to leave by 06.30, where did my lovely 4 days off go , I hope my leg doesn't cause me too many problems tomorrow otherwise its going to be a very long day :(

Also forgot to say that that the bag of mince made enough filling for me to make a pie for Wednesdays tea so that will be 4 portions of cottage pie and 4 portions of a mince beef and onion pie, I just have to make the pastry and I already have the ingredients for that in the cupboard....4days tea out of one bag of quorn Mince and one onion is not bad going....lol

Thanks I can't believe I have managed to not spend as much as I normally would just by thinking ahead, we might be sick of quorn mince by the end of the week but we will be fed and no money wil have been wasted
Unfortunately the leg is an ongoing problem that isn't going to go away however I can work around it normally so hopefully it will be improved by the morning, I am going to try to get some sleep now after quaffing down some painkillers:)

    Hi Chicken,

You'll be at work now but I hope your leg is okay, I had a terrible day yesterday with mine (not nearly as bad as the challenges you face - I broke mine 9 months ago and it's being very "difficult").

Good work on the shopping! I always feel like I've won a little battle when I save on mine :D Have you joined the NSD challenge? It's one that really helps me on the rough days, each one in the pot is another little win and a step towards debt freedom.

Just a thought on the now two cards, are you likely to use one if it's there (I know I'd be tempted - that's how I got here) if not are there any additional benefits with them that can save money elsewhere? Travel insurance? Breakdown cover? Might be worth looking into if you are sure you won't spend on them, as I said it's not something for me, I'm keeping one cleared card as an emergency fund until my next is clear then closing each one until I'm left with one for hubby's new job expenses and one for pre-saved big purchases for the extra insurance cover. Just my plan and may not work for you.

    Keep up the good work,

    Kate x

Hi Kate, I have been accepted for both cards now  and I only applied because of the balance transfer deal they were offering. The first card said they had transferresd my balances but they were still on there yesterday, I will have to check again so I can either stick with that one or I can transfer the balance again onto the second card and get two months longer to pay it off, I don't plan to use either of them for anything other than balance transfer, so they will be chopped up and disposed of so I am not tempted
It did make me think though how easy it is for people to be lured in because I applied for the second card not thinking I would get it because I earn less than they say I need to earn to qualify for this particular card and I was shocked to see that not only have I got it but the credit limit is £10,000:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

I am going to look at the NSD Challenge, I easily clock up three nsd's a week when I am at work because I never spend money while I am there, I used to buy my lunch and nip into the shop that is in the hospital but not anymore, I am becoming quite miserly....lol...

  • Today was very mad at work, we had a busy theatre list so I was running around all over the place, my leg held up though with the aid of my trusty painkillers so I made it to the end of my shift :) I nearly got blown away on the way home though.
Today has been a NSD because I was at work for 12 hours and I took my own lunch of left over cottage pie and some of the gingerbread I made yesterday. I am now shattered as I have been up since 5.40am so I am off to bed, I just had to pop in and update my diary though :)
    Sweet Dreams everyone x

  • It was a day off today and another NSD for me because I didn't go anywhere again, the weather here in Devon has been horrendous so I thought it best to stay at home where I wouldn't get blown away, I did make it out up the garden to sort my poor chickens out, they are not likeing this weather at all and poor Esme has decided now would be a good time to moult so she looks like a badly stuffed pillow at the moment
On the money front I am doing well at not spending money on things I don't need and I am still noteing everything down in my diary and I have checked my bank account to make sure everyone has been paid
The only booboo I have made is that when I did the money transfer from my old CC to the new CC I forgot to take into account the payment that had come out since my last statement, so I am now in credit on that card, I have contacted them in the hope that they can credit it back onto the new card.
I am tackling my disorganised brain but I am very very forgetful and liable to make mistakes like this, hopefully the money will come back
I spent the day doing housey things today and then managed to knit another 3 squares for my Battersea Blanket, I also made the pastry for the pie to use up the quorn mince and it was yummy, DD also roasted up all the odd bits of veg that were knocking aroud and made a Butternut Squash soup which we can have another day, we tried a bit and its lovely so no waste here today
I am now chilling out for a bit before going to bed because I have work tomorrow so need to up at the crack of dawn......yawn
