This is all too vague for you to get any sensible advice other than talk to a solicitor!

    Well I'm not doing either.

There may or may not be restrictions but that's why I want to know for sure.

You're not giving people much to go on are you - if you don't want to tell people on here your big idea then you're going to have to stump up for a solicitor.

But even if you do give full details on here, you're not going to get advice - you'll get opinions, which may or may not be correct. Do you really want to risk everything you've got on the opinion of some anonymous person on a forum?

I don't want advice on here about my idea, I want advice on where to go to get (free) advice about a legal way of carrying out my idea.

I thought maybe there would be some company who deals with business ideas/plans who would also be able to guide me in the right direction/find out what's legal and work through it with me.

I don't want opinions on the idea or what people think is legal and no I don't want to risk everything. That's why I never asked for that.

My first post clearly states I do not want to say the idea, I just want to know how to find out what is the legal way of doing things.

If a solicitor is the only way then fair enough. I was just hoping there were other options.

OP has brillo Business idea, so wonderful, he cannot tell anyone. This idea requires copying of a trademark or copyright item. OP cannot afford legal advise.

OP, why not Franchise from Intellectual Property Owner.

Does anyone know anything about the New Enterprise Allowance? I'm still on the WP at the moment but once I leave that I think that would be an option. Would they be able to help with that?

The site says "a mentor to help you develop your business idea and write a business plan". Developing it would mean working out the legal stuff. Just not sure how much they're actually willing (or able) to help.

    Copying? lol no. It doesn't.

Because that's not what I want to do.

Perhaps a lot of research is necessary. If you can find any terms and conditions or any small print whatsoever for the product you want to use/copy/mimick etc. then do that. Business people actually do read through small print. It will not cost you a penny either.

Ah Intellectual Property, a minefield of misinformation.

Are we talking Trademarks, Copyright, or Patents ?

Personally, If you have a money making idea and would be happy to pay an organisation royalties, for use of any of the above, then contact them.

If it's reuse of an idea in the public domain and is not patented, or patentable, then just go ahead.

It's a bit of a grey area it seems. There have been some big events similar to my idea in which a couple of big companies said no but I think they allowed it in the end. It also didn't affect the entire event and not sure how it would compare to my far smaller idea.

Basically the short version is it's personal use only but the long version is that it's more complicated. There are business using the products so there are ways of using them in business, I'm just not sure about for my idea. It depends on various points.

It might be a case of needing permission or a license but then it's whether I need that from all companies involved, how to get it, if I'm limited legally that way too etc.

There are multiple companies involved so it's not quite that simple. They wouldn't get much in royalties so I don't know if they care and it could ruin the business if it's not making much to start with.

It's not reusing an idea. Not sure about patents.

I think it's well nigh impossible for anyone to comment sensibly on something you're not prepared to be clear about.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
