Energy Price comparison options

Just having a look on price comparison websites and I thought wouldn't it be easier clicking on a region and seeing a list of suppliers prices without going though the questionnaire.

I know how much I'm paying at the moment, I doubt I will be changing my lifestyle in the near future. On this basis it would be a lot easier just to glance though a list of suppliers in my region and their prices rather than rely on a website running algorithms.

After all you can search google and compare prices of petrol in your area.

You can multiply a number to three decimal places by 365 add it to another multiplied by several thousand, twice, then add five percent, knock off £xy then hold that figure in your head whilst doing the same another 3 + (4 x 5) + (4 x a whole bunch of new players you have never heard of) times? And easily keep track of all that?

Alternatively, put three items in a comparison site and see a table of the results.

(Make sure you use a comparison site that only asks for postcode and consumption - don't bother with a site that starts demanding email or exact address details.)

I know what your getting at but if I pay 11p a unit for electricity + 22p standing charge. It would be easier for me to see a list of suppliers in my area and how much they charge for gas/electric/gas & electric.

So I would be looking initially for how much per unit charged, is there one cheaper than what I'm paying at the moment. Then I would short list to find the cheapest standing charge.

If it was that easy, then we'd all be doing it and there'd be no need for comparison sites.
Come on get real - it has to be complicated to confuse the majority so they can charge suppliers a commission for service that we don't really need.
However I've no doubt that if they could simplify down to that level then there would be another special site, like petrol prices that you'd have to subscribe to obtain the lists - the ombudsman or ofgem could do it and the Government could then rake off the subscription fees.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers
