PGCE Bursary help?

Hey,
I am looking to undertake a PGCE in September 2014 or 2015.
I am just wondering on any help I will be able to get. I have looked online but it has left me a little confused.
unfortunately, I will not be studying a subject in which they class as 'desirable' as I will specialise in Media or Citizenship.
I am hopefully, going to be graduating with a first though this year.
The reason I ask is, I have a distant memory of being told that teachers who graduate with a first will get a very high bursary, however, when I look online I cannot find any information on this (apart from the 'desirable subjects').
I ask because, Money is a problem at the moment and I will not be able to afford to undertake any type of teaching course if the support I get isn't enough.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

From a cursory glance the premium for a First is allied to subject. So, a soft subject like Media will not attract that premium.0

Is it possible to get onto a pgce doing media? In many schools the subjects you mention are picked up by teachers who are also teaching other main subjects? Teach First recruit graduates with first class degrees from good uni's ( red brick usually). Many pgce courses look for candidates with classroom experience.0

If you're doing a secondary PGCE, then no I don't think you'd get a bursary with a media subject.
If you're doing primary though and have any first or 2:1 degree then you'll get a bursary. I'm doing a primary PGCE at the moment and have a 2:1 degree so I get £4000 over the course of the year.
If you have a first and do primary then you are entitled to £9000 over the year.0 -
Don't do it...look for another career.
The comments on this article are people saying the same again and again and again. The job I loved in 1999 is now unmanagable, no work life balance is possible and the children are treated as pieces of data rather than kids. For your sanity, look elsewhere.
