Cost per mile of running a used car
There are websites around that give estimates of the cost per mile for running a new car over 3 years.
Are there websites around that estimate the cost per mile for used cars ? eg Based on make/model or type of car against age of car and annual mileage, and expected period of ownership ?
I know the AA does some very generic costings.

Not that I know of, I am currently working on such a web site but it will be a few months before it's ready.
Parkers do have a very generic guide for the cost of running a used car and it lets you compare up to three different ones, includes depreciation, fuel etc.Make £2018 in 2018 Challenge - Total to date £2,1080 -
Exactly what are you wanting to include? Petrol? Depreciation? Tyre wear? Insurance?0

Yes everything0

Not for a new car but second hand. I just kept a note of everything single thing I paid for over 12 months and then just dived it by miles traveled. I now have a figure in mind for every journey I take this year, not too sure how you could do it in advance of a car purchase.
Expenses-
Car purchase (1998 Saab 93 2.0 auto turbo) price £495
Insurance £198
Tax £225
Fuel £875.04 (£0.34 per mile)
Brake pads and disks all round- £84
Wiper blades £10
2 x Tyres £60
Lamp relay £13
MOT £40
Welding £35
Locking wheel nuts £28
2 x Bulbs £2.88
Total £2065.92 for 12 months motoring
Total miles travelled since Feb 1st 2012 –3101
I am not deducting anything for depreciation as with 12months MOT I think I could still sell it for the purchase price.
Over the year I have averaged 18.6mpg.
Total cost of £0.67p per mile.
If I had purchased a train season ticket it would have cost £668 and a bus pass would have been £490 and without a car I would have needed both, £1158.
A good value years motoring with another one, even cheaper to look forward to.0 -
Have a read of this thread for some idea:

The trouble is that it is rather variable. Buy a used car that doesn't throw up any faults and it's a lot cheaper than one that does...0 -
It all depends on the miles you do! I also track all the expenses related to my car and purchased an X-demonstrator 15 months ago.
I have now covered 19,700 miles which works out at 35ppm plus fuel. On petrol it cost me 12.8ppm and on LPG it is costing me 8.5ppm. As you can see compared to Worried Jim my "new" car is costing less per mile - but I have done 6x his mileage!
08/11/2012Purchase Price £10,190.00
08/11/2012Insurace Admin Fee £20.18
17/03/2013Annual Insurance £253.09
22/04/2013Road fund Licence £202.50
13/05/20131st Service £181.98
28/10/2013LPG Conversion £1,950.51
16/01/20142 Front tyres £146.20
Current value -£6,000.00
Total cost to date = £6,944.46 / 19700 miles = 35.25ppm + fuel
