Import Charges on Listing - Please Explain

Recently, I have started buying clothes on ebay.com agin. One parcel had 3 items in it, and I had to pay customs, duty, etc.

I have just found a top in my size I would like to buy, but both the seller has also included 'Import Charges $12.63, anount to be confirmed at checkout".

I have never seen this before. I suspect if I do a BIN, I may be subject to this charge too - which BTW would not cover me if Customs levied a charge here. I probably should walk away, but I have been checking regularly for this particular top to become available in my size.

Does anyone have any suggestions.

If this is the official Ebay insert this is actually a third party company that does all the international bit of selling in USA for you. The seller sends it to the company who then does the customs and pays the customs charge and then sends it to you. So when you receive it you don't have to pay anymore. I brought a top from USA with this and I was charged one price and had no problems. Amazon do a similar thing but estimate it and refund you any difference.

    Thank you for your reply.

The seller told me because she uses ebay postage, this charge is automatically levied. I think I will wait for another seller, who does not use ebay postage, to have this particular item.

its a new thing , some sellers can charge the customs fee at checkout so it comes straight through with no further charges, no hold ups at customs

if its an item that will definetly attract a customs charge then its a good way as there wont be a £8-10 collection fee from the uk delivery company

if its a smaller low cost item then yes maybe take a chance as they often get through with no fee's
  • Trouble is some items that are below £15 and you wouldn't pay customs on are sold this way so you end up paying this charge when you shouldn't have too.

Thanks for this info. There's a seller selling parts I need, and using this service the postage is much, much cheaper than what I've been paying ordering directly through company websites, I guess because the company that handle it ship the items together so postage is reduced.
