Ordered on ebay, sent by Amazon

I ordered an item on ebay and it was sent to me by Amazon. I know some people sell the same items on ebay and through Amazon Marketplace, but this item is also "fulfilled by Amazon", so it arrived in Amazon packaging, with an Amazon packing slip, Amazon return address and was even delivered by Amazon Logistics! :D

Has anyone come across this before? It's not really a problem (won't even affect me unless I have to return it - not sure where/who I'd return it to), but i'm just curious. How would this set-up work? Wouldn't they end up having to pay fees to both companies?
