If someone wants to use your current name. So why not sell the business to them and start afresh?.

Presumably this is a limited company?

If so, then yes you can change your company's name. Once it is changed, then anyone else can take the old one if they want :)

Your tax & vat reference numbers will not change as they relate to the same company i.e registered number.

If you want to change the business of the company, then you can do that too. You should inform the VAT people so that your VAT certificate can be updated - you can do this online. As regards the company itself, you can update that when you do your next annual return.

However, are you sure this is the direction you want to take the company? If you are still trading, won't you keep getting contacted about your former business activities? (e.g. by past customers wishing to place a new order?)

Also if you currently have a business name that someone else wants, then that is an asset that (as this is a moneysaving site) I don't understand why you would want to give it away for free?
