Ideas needed on helping worthy causes

Hi

I’m wondering whether there is anything more I can do to help worthy causes that compliments the way in which I use the pc already, without impacting into my time too much. BTW, I already do quite a bit in my own time on a voluntary basis. I just want to maximise my time to support others. The links below are to give an example of the type of thing I’m on about. I’m not associated with any of them, other than in a user capacity.

What I already do is:
1) Use a screensaver that uses the spare computing power of my pc to help solve humanitarian/environmental problems ie. Distributed computing
http://distributedcomputing.info/projects.html

2) Use a piece of free software that rotates my startpage every time I use the internet. Each different stsrtpage leads to click-to-donate webpage where I can click the ‘Donate’ button and a small fraction of money is donated to a worthy cause at no cost to me
http://www.whatpage.org/

3) Use an email reminding service that reminds me every 2 days to open up a webpage where I can click the ‘Donate’ button and a small fraction of money is donated to a worthy cause at no cost to me

What I don’t do (in case somebody replies with ‘Well what about blah)

1) Use search engines that donate money to charities per search at no cost to me. Reason: I like Google
http://www.everyclick.com/

2) Buy on Ebay and donate part of my sale to charity. Reason: My sales aren’t that big
http://www.missionfish.org.uk/index.html

3) Use charity search toolbars. Reason: I like Google
http://www.goodsearch.com/toolbars.aspx

4) Use charity email accounts. Reason; Not convinced thart the one I used worked

So there you have it. I’m pretty sure that there is a load more stuff I can do with my pc to help worthwhile causes. Has anybody else got anymore suggestions as to what I can do without impacting too much into my time.

Oh, and another question, if I may. Does anybody else know of anymore forums which focus on charities run along similar lines to this forum ie. Question, advice and suggestions on chrities and how to help them out.

Thanks in advance
Mike

I havent heard about some of these and will investigate - I use ippimail for email and Give or Take for online shopping - do you know about these? I also use everyclick, but like you think it's not a patch on google, so I go to everyclick and click on google from there and my charity can still benefit (i think)

That's the type of stuff I'm looking for. I didn't know about Give or Take or ippimail and will give them a trial run methinks. Thanks for letting me know about them.

As soon as our website is launched I'll let you know, as it sounds like you could be very useful to us, that's if you are still interested in this topic.

Our charity is centred around helping everyone with any problems whatsoever that they have, all for free, so we will be loading the site with links to every possible helper.

I sure am still interested in this topic - you could say, that if I didn't have to go to work to bring in the money, I'd be volunteering full time and there still wouldn't be enough time in the day for me!

I'm intrigued about your website and sure, let me know when you have it up and running. I too am working on a project - one which will try and encourage Joe Public to help out/volunteer their time with minimal impact on their daily lives.

I've looked into the Wishsprite Doundation and found it very useful. Thanks for the link. I believe once my project is up and running, I could do with their help.
