Scottish Power Online Fixed Price March 2014

I have been on the above fixed rate since November 2012. I had an email from Scottish Power explaining my options. They offered me their Online Fixed Price Energy February 2015 v3.

I went on U-switch and it seemed my best option would be to change to First Utility. I checked again with Moneysupermarket and it came up showing that the new deal Scottish Power are offering would be my cheapest option. I checked the compare with U-Switch and realise they only 'run a comparison using the plan you will be rolled over to: Scottish Power Standard Online' and don't take into account any other tariff with the same provided that they offer.

Admittedly Scottish Power would have rolled me onto their standard online rate, had I ignored their email. However their email with new fixed rate price tariff, detailed the prices very clearly and it was very quick and easy to transfer tariffs online with them. I have had very good service with Scottish Power, so I am very happy to stay with them, and save myself money.

I just thought I would post this in case it's helpful to anyone else in this situation.

I did the same with U switch on the same offers as you but I put in the details as though it was the contract I was on was the one they had offered me.

Nothing seemed to be cheaper, I then looked at the Scottish Power site and realised they have a three year deal as well as the one year deal but the three year deal is approximately 10% more per year. Still trying to work out if it's worth the risk as I would lose in the first year, possibly break even in the second year and then hopefully win in the third year.

However, if a Labour government comes to power they are promising to freeze energy prices until 2017 and if this happens surely I would then lose on the three year deal. Would really appreciate opinions on this.

    Hi chirpchirp

Good thinking, I will do that next year when the new price fix is expiring, thanks for that tip.

As for the 3 year deal... very interesting, could be a gamble!
