Hi, I just got my dad's computer, a desk top, and I thought when I switched on I would be able to see my wireless router and connect to the internet
My dad had it connected via a bt hub
There are no networks showing and although I thought I was quite savvy I am at a loss as to what to do next
Any help anyone please?

Is the computer wireless enabled? You might have connect by wire. Or use your ISPs setup disc.0

Connect it with the cable and you should get a connection then log in to TalkTalk. The password is on the back of the router.
If the desktop is wireless enabled there's generally a board with a small aerial0 -

Unplugged it from tv etc and brought it round to desktop etcThe mind is like a parachute. It doesn’t work unless it’s open.:o

It sounds like the desktop has not got a wireless capability then (not unusual) ... your father probably had it connected to the hub with an Ethernet LAN cable. You need to do the same to connect it to your router.... DaveHappily retired and enjoying my 14th year of leisureI am cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.Bring me sunshine in your smile0

Something like this, although they do come in a vast variety of length (this one's 20m long so you may want to search for a shorter cable), quality and colour. First check that your desktop and router both have RJ45 LAN sockets.

If the PC has USB ports, try one of these - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Edimax-EW-7811UN-150Mbps-Wireless-Adapter/dp/B003MTTJOY/0

Go to Control Panel in Windows, and have a look at what it says under Network and Internet settings, and see if you machine has a wireless adaptor, the adapter may need troubleshooting option run, if not as said before purchase a cheap wifi usb dongle. My Mind wanders, if found please return.0
