Ah. Got a bit confused there.
I have an external USB to Sata adapter/connector and that is what I was planning on doing. Thought you meant a USB memory stick..
Thanks for that, Will do.
Fingers crossed."Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0 -
just so you know, microsoft will be stopping updates/support for xp from March 2014, you could try linux i have yet to try this myself but you can just download it and burn it to disc and run it, costs nothing. but if you use your computers with out the updates you WILL have virus in there without you knowing it, your av program will probably ignore them until you update the operating system. i witness this on my work computer a couple of weeks ago.My Signature is MY OWN!!0

Sorry, but that's nonsense.
Microsoft have extended availability of the pattern files for a further twelve months, and all other AV vendors have committed to providing pattern updates for AV scanners on XP indefinitely (it doesn't cost them much to do). There are some theoretical scenarios in which a virus could be constructed which hinges on a previously unknown security flaw in XP which Microsoft refuse to fix owing to it dropping off support, and which cannot be dealt with by a conventional AV package. But let's cross that bridge when we come to it, eh? There are huge amounts of FUD being used to try to scare people into stopping using perfectly sound computers.0 -
Hmm. Final hurdle.
Bloody Sata and Ata.
The 500Gb (Inside the Vista machine) is SATA and my W7 'puter is SATA but the 80Gb that is destined for the Vista machine is ATA BUT there are ATA connections inside
Would I be OK to just change the jumpers and install the ATA drive in the VISTA machine alongside the SATA drive and copy the System files from the internal 500Gb SATA drive to the ATA drive, then unplug the 500Gb SATA so that only leaves a 80Gb ATA drive with a copy of the system files.
Would the PC auto detect or will I need to make an alteration to the Bios ?
Is this a feasible proposition?
EDIT: Thinking about it, would I be better off using the USB - ATA connector to make the ATA drive a USB drive, copying the System files as planned THEN install the ATA drive as master.
Would BIOS auto find or will I need to alter it?"Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0 -
