PPI on a new bathroom

A few years ago we bought a new bathroom from B & Q and B & Q installed it for us.
We had lots of problems with this but that's another story.
Anyway we paid for the bathroom in instalments over a number of years.
Its now completely paid off. At the time I had never heard of PPI and although this added payment was clearly shown on the statement I didn't know what it was until all these recent press about it. I merely thought it was part of the interest.
If I had known at the time what this PPI was I would not have paid it as I am salaried and wouldn't have been able to claim.
Also during the time I was paying this I was off work for about 8 weeks and if I had know I had this protection I would have tried to claim.
Anyway I wrote to B & Q to request my money back but they told me it was nothing to do with them and that I needed to write to Santander. I did this and they refused to refund my money.
I then wrote to the FCA and they said they no longer get involved with these matters.
Does anyone know if there is anything else I can do?

Being salaried would not prevent you from claiming.I then wrote to the FCA and they said they no longer get involved with these matters.
The FCA is the regulator. It doesnt get involved in consumer complaints. It never has (nor did the FSA prior to it).
If you look at your rejection letter from Santander, it will tell you if you have rights to refer your complaint to the ombudsman (or other body depending on date).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
