Have you got the tax reminder? That's all they need at the PO now. No other documents necessary. Or tax it online?“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0

No - I don't think that will work as the vehicle is currently on SORN the reminder V11 is only for when the VED disc is to be renewed without any time gap.
The OP needs to write or phone for a new V5c.
All explained here:
http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum_dg/groups/dg_digitalassets/@dg/@en/@motor/documents/digitalasset/dg_065264.pdf
Losing a V5C is not usually a big deal except when you need it NOW as the OP does - I can't see an easy way around this.
I'm unsure if you could tax the vehicle on-line with an out of date reminder or SORN notice.
Worth a try.
Because it's been on SORN I don't think you can use the vehicle while waiting for the disc to arrive either.
Lots of things have changed since last year so it's little use saying what one used to be able to do. So that gov.uk link has to be read carefully.0 -

You need a number off the front of the V5 to be able to do that.0 -
Thanks all, this is a major setback for me.
I have definitely lost my v5 so trying to get a new one.
I am so annoyed at myself I think it was with my driving licence and I cant find that either.
And trying to get a new V5 for £50 OUCH! but I cant even do that they say I need my driving licence number
So I have to first get a new driving licence, THEN get a new V% then get a tax disc.
Any other options, I so wish I had done it yesterday then my reminder will have worked, I just didnt want to waste a month but I would do it now to save all the hassel.
but the number on my reminder ran out yesterday.
Silly me, you reap what you sow.0 -

If you are trying to use this service too early then please try again from the 5th of the month.
If you are trying to use this service too late then please use your V5C Registration Certificate (Log Book) or visit a tax-issuing Post Office®.

The last few words here say

well I visited a tax dic post office and they said they couldnt do it without my V5, do you think another PO may?0 -
I just paid £50 for a replacement V5 then someone said it should have only cost £25. I wish I knew that and did it over the phone for £25, I thought online was cheaper than over the phone?
Any way before waiting for it to arrive I have asked them would it be possible to please send me the number on that I need to buy a new tax disc today?0 -
I think I am have been had !!!!!!!
I am trying to get a new V5 form and thought it was the official government website I was on - https://www.V5C.uk.com
But it cost £50 and now I think they may have ripped me off.
I try ringing the number and it is just an expensive machine Im going round and round pressing different options and it has cost about £10.
Please help me anyone?

Is this a rip off company?0 -
F#CK I have been ripped off £50
now they say you still have to pay £25 when you get the forms from them.
"The table below indicates the fee (where payable) that is charged by the DVLA, which must be paid to them once you receive your application pack from us."0 -
You should have gone to the dvla instead of a site that pretty much just sends you a form.
