There's little value in insulating the body of the door when there'll nearly always be side, top and/or bottom gaps to let the wind whistle in.....

But there isn't with roller doors.

I replace an old up and over door with a Cardale 1/3 - 2/3 side opening metal door. ( http://www.cardale.com/georgian-steel-side%20hinged )

I insulated the doors with celotex and covered internally with ply.

I went for side hinged so I could go in and out with out having to have the entire garage open to the elements each time.

I fitted my self and came to £700 all in; including insulation, frame sealants and threshold strip.

Thank you for that, its just the sort of thing I am wanting. So if I budget £1k it should hopefully cover it depending on labour costs, x

I don't know if you have found a garage door company, but I've had an electric roller door fitted by Essati Garage Doors, they say in the add £700 but with extras it worked out about £1000. Everything went well and I am really happy with the product. Their number is 01245361676 and they have a website too.
    Hope this helps

I've gone this route too! It was a bit extra to have a black door (long story..) but I'm just waiting for my install date. They are based in Chelmsford but have a few regional offices.

I'm after a 7'x7' black door and have been looking at Essati - what's your verdict?

Quite impressed, fitters were punctual, cleared up (they take the old door{s} away) and polite. Door does what it says on the tin. They do kind of suck you in with the £699 price for a "standard" door - which is white only, with a very basic control system (hold the button down, not press & release) with just 1 remote, but the end quote for a more sophisticated (push for up, push for down, 2 remotes and a separate alarm system) was competitive with the local guys that also quoted me. So it was £180 extra for black and more for the posh AEG control electronics but I'm very pleased with it.

That said, the guy behind the company (Paul Kelly) has had a few different "incarnations" over the last few years - all in the garage door business in/around Chelmsford/Essex. You can pay your £400 deposit by card, but you can't pay the balance by personal cheque or credit/debit card - just by bank draft or cash (or transfer) and they WILL try to sell you a (non-insurance backed, so worthless) extra 9 year warranty for £90 when they fit it. But fore-warned is fore-armed as they say. The product does what it does and the fitters did a good job, in my opinion. The acid test - the wife is happy with it, and she's as picky as they come!

Hi, I've been looking for a replacement garage door, and have had a quote over £2k for a single, manual door (!).

I saw the Essati ad and their web site, and to be honest it looks too good to be true.

Thanks for the heads up on the "extras", but the overall price still seems competitive.

My garage is integral to the house, but there is no internal access to the house, so where do they fit the open/close control?

Also, what is the security of the door locking like? I'm thinking I have to be able to open it in a power cut, so if I can, so can somebody else...

Am I wasting my time looking for a powered solution?

    Thanks.
  • I would like to warn everyone out there who are thinking about getting a Essati roller garage door. I saw their advert for £699 for a fully fitted basic roller door, I decided to upgrade to include the safety beam, 2 handsets, wall light, internal button for a total price of £984.

Beware for this price they DO NOT include any internal cover box or hood which is an EXTRA £120, which I found out about with an email and phone call. This was NOT pointed out by the surveyor at the time of the site survey, but it is mentioned in the T & Cs in very small print.

The fitters will try and sell you Essati extended 10 year warranty at an extra cost of £90. Please beware that this is NOT an insurance plan, but their own plan. So anyone who is thinking about using this company, just beware regarding all of the extra £s. Apart from that the door works fine.
