Opinions on Facebook Comps!

Gauging opinion please! I want to run a comp on my FB page, for a prize worth around £20, and wondered what everyone thinks is a good time to run it for? 1 week, 2 weeks, or a month? I'm asking compers and comp providers, which do you prefer or which has been more successful to run? P.S. Any other suggestions and advice welcome!
Xx

Hi 12LuDo!
As you've not received any replies yet I thought I'd give my opinion. For me 2 weeks is about right to keep interest going. There will probably be a flurry at the start and at the end so its not so long as to lose interest in the middle. Give a definite end date and if you have any other terms and conditions make them clear as well.
Please don't ask for 'like and share' as sharing posts can get facebook users in some trouble and comps aren't supposed to be run like that. You could say that shares would be appreciated, but not make it part of the entry requirement. Also avoid any voting comps at all costs! My favourite facebook comps are those that require a like and a comment, but where the winner is chosen at random...discourages sob storys and begging.
I hope that is of some help!
You will not be allowed to post your own competition on the forum as self promotion is not allowed. But maybe one of your facebook fans will post it for you.
Good luck! Many thanks to everyone who posts competitions and works so hard to provide all the answers!

Facebook comps do seem to get good results - for me they have to be interesting enough to enter for. That doesn't mean that they have to be expensive - just worth having.
Facebook are for ever changing their rules and regs - if you use it a lot I'd suggest that you follow Amy Porterfield. I bought a FB book that she wrote and she gives loads of hints and tips for blogs, facebook, websites and more. This is her FB page https://www.facebook.com/AmyPorterfield
The first post is right - asking for shares is against FB terms - heaven knows why!
Good luck with your comp.0 -
From an occasional opportunist comper - I like face book comps. I prefer the like and share comps with a random winner. Actually know 2 people who randomly won good prises recently. It was good to see. Think both of those comps were fairly short term - 10 days perhaps 14.0

Wrong. Facebook relaxed the rules and like/share comps have been allowed since August 2013.0 -
i dislike like and share as i think a lot of spam and hoaxes are perpetuated this way and for quite a few people on my news feed they find it difficult to distinguish between scams, hoaxes (share to with an ipad we can't sell because the box is damaged etc...) and genuine competitions.Life is too short to let people get you down :j0

This must be wrong. I see many, many comps based on likes and shares. One example is Home Bargains gives away £100 every week this way and has done for a good few months. If my posts have random wrong words, please blame the damn autocorrect not me0 -
