OS Daily Thread for 1st February

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning all
Pinch punch & all that.
Hugs to Molly, Snoozer, Hilly & anyone else in need, LW roll on Jessie's visit.
Hubby's fast asleep & so is DGD, but I woke up & can't get back to sleep so I've come downstairs to have a wander round the the interweb, I shall read my kindle for a while too. If I lie in bed I'll wake hubby up tossing and turning.
He has to be at work at 7:30 so it's an early start for DGD, she can stay in her jammies whilst we drop him at work & have breakfast when we get home.
I'm taking her home around 10ish & them driving to get DGS from my other DD's, DGS is coming to B&Q with us, we need to buy a new toilet seat! We'll have a look round the garden center too whilst we're there.
Time I hit the kindle to see if it makes me sleepy.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester
Chin up, Titus out.

    Morning everyone

Hester – hope the not being able to sleep doesn’t become a habit, as it’s hard to break, I have times where my brain just doesn’t shut down and it causes me sleepless nights.

Still dark but wet underfoot after yesterday’s rain that started in the afternoon and then became windy and cold aswell – not very nice driving conditions or for those that were out in it – wind has eased a bit but still supposed to be windy but not raining – we’ll see. We’re lucky here as the forecast for the rest of the country was awful for yesterday and today but not as bad for us.

DH and I up enjoying a cuppa in peace and DH has some brekkie. I’ll have mine in a bit – it’s a bit too early for me.

Dinner last night was easy chicken and bacon kievs, chips, beans and salad for the menfolk and I had trout, jacket potato and salad. Tonight we’re out at a black tie dinner and I don’t know what the menu is – I’m sure it’ll be lovely if it’s anything like last year – excellent food, company and surroundings!

Got all the immediate jobs done yesterday, bank, building society, went to collect boys xbox and it wasn’t ready, went to collect DH’s suit and it wasn’t ready – so both those I have to go back to on Monday and hopefully they will be ready. Did get the packing done, so we’re ready to get off later.

Had 1 of those days yesterday where I couldn’t settle and had a real CAB mood on, should really have done some baking but didn’t – hoping having the night away tonight will recharge the batteries and help me focus.

On a positive note, weight loss seems to have resumed and I’m just trying to loose another 2-4lb – then I’ll just maintain at that weight.

Have a great Saturday everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

  • Good morning all,
Hester, i hope you managed to get a bit more sleep.
nmlc, hope you enjoy your night away.
It seems to have stopped raining for the moment. Last night it was really windy and the rain was just crashing against the windows.
Probably going to look at a couple of cars today for dd. Her driving instructor has said once she has passed her theory test she will be pretty much ready to be put in for her driving test. We paid for ds first car and that is what we are going to do for the girls. It is on the condition that they have the money to pay for their insurance in full. Based on the quotes she has been getting she isn't too far away from that.
No other plans today. Did a far bit of ironing yesterday. Airer is full.
Tea tonight is chicken with potatoes and salad.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

    Morning :hello:

    snoozer Thinking of you xxx

Yesterday started so well – dentist, doctor, B&Q then Morrisons and we were home by 10.45. I put the shopping away then sat down with a coffee and my throat started hurting. By 2pm I was shivering under a blanket on the sofa. This morning I'm full of cold and ache all over. I'll take my time getting just the essentials done then will take it easy for the rest of the day. Hopefully this will disappear as quickly as it started :D

I'm back at the dentist's on monday to have an impression done. In three weeks (maybe less) I'm having the tooth out and a temporary false tooth fitted, when the gum has healed I'm having a bridge. The end is in sight :D

I sat and re-worked the budget for the year. I already knew what was going where but it's on the spreadsheet now so it's official :D Have allowed a bit extra for the water bill etc. going up. I can actually manage to squirrel some away for the first time ever :T I'll be removing some cash each month as soon as wages land in the account, mr tru is a spender and cannot be trusted :D He would never overspend, but I don't see the point in having extra money and then spending it on rubbish, just because you can.

I need to order a shredder, will do that in a mo then have a coffee and dose up on cold and flu tablets :D

    Morning all,

Heavy rain all night, there was a pump lorry thing sucking the water out of the drains across the road, it kept coming and going all night, I think they are expecting bad flooding. I am off to work today and the road down to there always floods, it was really bad coming home last night so goodness knows what its like today !

DD and OH still asleep just me and little dog awake, she has had her breakfast and jab and gone back to sleep too.

Dinner tonight will be hm pizza, which dd and her boyf will be in charge of cooking, hopefully that will make him eat it.

I will put a wash on before I go to work, but any other cleaning will be down to them.

    Have good days all xx

I was running a new anti virus programme on the lap top last night and it breathed its last. It can't find the operating system and I can't find the disc. Even if I could the disc drive doesn't work! It hasn't had any sound for years so I think the time has come. Shopping for a new one isn't my idea of fun but needs must.
Trying to post this on an I pod touch so a tad slow.
Hugs to those in need have a good weekend. Take care xx

    Good Morning x

Sorry not to have posted much for ages - life is so very hectic with hospital visits, parents, kids and wretched ESA form to fill (Yes it is still ongoing!!!!)

Hester - hope you got back to sleep xx
Tru - look after yourself x
    Snoozer - hugs x

Huge fallout from eldest son's split up from mad cow (sorry that is offensive to cows) whilst I was in London at appointment on Tuesday. She had wound him him up and extorted money out of him with false promises and then did the the dirty with some other poor unsuspecting fella. Luckily my DD found out what happened (Eldest son went mad but no damage done) and managed to intervene, so the police were not involved (Ringing bells Tru). Anyway :T:T:T to my DD and "she" has moved now so I think it is finally over (fingers crossed). Just the tenancy to sort now (sigh) - so much easier when they little :(

In other news we are off to parents to clear garage and we are inching forward little by little with moving plans - bungalow closer to us:eek:

Very worried about hubby = he looks grey with exhaustion and Im trying to do more but keep falling over and landing on my head. It is quite comical to watch:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Have an OS day and my thoughts also to Donny, Bemuzed, Hilly and Lamewolf and Ruby x
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

    Morning everyone,

Had a good sleep (took a pill) having a cuppa now.
MIL is on end of life care.:A OH is with her (only son) and her grandson. I feel bad about not being there, but as OH said, I can't do anything, and he would be worried about me falling or worse. He'll come and get me when necessary. Spoke to MIL on the phone last night. Told her she was the best MIL ever, and I loved her. She said she loved me too. Came off the phone in tears. She is very calm, and said she just wants to go to sleep now and not wake up. She is 93 and has been living independantly all this time, but it's still hard.:A

Funny how I am really well at the moment so OH doesn't have to nurse me, but can devote his time to his mum. Life is very strange....

DD is coming over later to pick up the bargain shoes I got my DGC. £36 for three pairs and one pair were Startrite.

Molly- My Grandma used to say "Children are arm aching when they are little and Heartbreaking when they grow up" Too true. x

Made Bread pudding yesterday, haven't done that for ages:rotfl:

    Enjoy the day.
    I Believe in saving money!!!:T
A Bargain is only a bargain if you need it!

Oh yes. I'm beginning to wonder if your mad cow is the same person as my mad cow. I'm glad yours has moved, hopefully you will never see or hear from her again

    Good Morning All

(((Hugs))) Snoozer and Hilstep, you are so lucky to have a good relationship with you Mil Hilstep

Its Saturday and January is over :j

Todays plans - after having a slow start :o plan to get loads of housework done this morning and have a lovely afternoon chilling with my kindle. Rained here again all last night and the roads are bad but luckily have no where to go apart from popping to the shop down the road as I need some cream.

Did want to start my day a little earlier but seemed I needed a small lie in :D

Having Beef Stroganof tonight (hence the cream) which we haven't had for ages but is nice and easy, will have it with rice. Currently OH is cooking breakfast but I wont eat too much as it will slow me down :rotfl:
    Have a great day everyone.x
