Paying Self Assessment Tax

Just completed my online submission. I need to pay but the Santander bill payment service for HMRC keeps falling over with an error message. I have been trying for nearly 3 hours.
Anyone else have that problem? I don't want to pay £100 fine.
Thanks.

I was just about to post the very same question! I have just made made it through to stage 2 of the payment confirmation and then finally got the same:

Sorry, an error has occured on the server.
An administrator has been alerted to this error, and will endeavour to prevent it happening again.
Please refresh the page to try again or return to the previous page.

I assume there is no chance the payment could go through? What are your thoughts if payments can't be made before the midnight dealine?

I guess it means paying a fine of £100. I really don't want to pay that. I will keep trying until midnight and I hope it goes through. What a nightmare! Wonder how much money they make because of their systems.

Been trying most of this evening

Surely they can't change the £100 fine and have to give a days grace based given that many people have tried to do it on time, all be it the last day and due to their payment systems have not been able to!

Doubt it...any excuse to make money. Bricking it! Only got half an hour left now.

Just had success of a kind... has anyone else just had a message similar to the following, this was after clicking 'Next' to go from stage 1 of payment to stage 2, however I had previously had one time out going from stage 2 of the payment to stage 3...

    WARNING

We have detected another payment of £xxx.xx to reference xxxxxxxxxxK in the last 24 hours.
This payment has already been received by our systems and will be processed.
If you wish to pay the same amount again, then please click 'next' to continue, otherwise click 'cancel payment'.

So it sounds like despite getting earlier errors my payment will be processed.

Edit: Just checked my bank account and the money is showing as being taken from my account, so it looks like its gone through, good luck all!

For the first time I've got to stage 2 and it just hung after I submitted it, waited around five minutes and then came up with an error of 'problem loading page'.

My payment has definitely gone through now as its showing debited from my bank account, however its odd as this wasn't the case after I got an error between stage 2 & 3 so I'm not sure if there is a lag in the system. I suspect if you were to try it again in 5-10 mins between stages 1 and 2 you may well get the same warning message as it appears that maybe clicking 'Next' after stage 2 is enough despite the warning, although maybe keep an eye on your available bank balance if you can as this will be the real give away.

I also entered my email address and have yet to have an email saying I've paid.

    ok, it's gone through.

Tried again after my last post, got to stage 2 and submitted and it came up with a straight 'problem loading page' error.

Tried again and this time I got the same 'warning you have paid' message.

I've been taking screen shots all the way through this process all evening every time I got an error page so if I had to contact HMRC I had a chain of evidence.

Nothing out of my bank account yet though.
