Resurfacing/ ideas for improving concrete path

Evening all,
Just wondering if anyone has any ideas about what I might be able to do with our garden path. Its a long concrete ugly thing, maybe 15m. Its horribly rough underfoot, and my 3 boys like nothing more than running around barefoot once the weather warms up, and this path leaves them crying out in pain at some points.
Can I resurface it to smooth it? Or possible just put patio slabs over the top, but then there would be a slight drop to the lawn next to it, ensuring they all start tripping up and falling onto the path. Or possibly painting it and add a substance to make it feel soft underfoot?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Try overslabbing with a thin slab (28mm or similar as long as it foot traffic only) or it needs to be relaid / replaced. Any dressing will fail quite quickly0
