Madeleine's Fund: Leaving No Stone Unturned Limited

Anyone know what the legality of this is?
The 'Find Madeline' appeal is not allowed to be a charity because it does not benefit a wider section of the public than a single family.

Presumably this means there are no safeguards on the money and the fund can do whatever they like?
What is the legality of this??? Are they allowed to solicit for donations without explaining that they are not actually a charity?

you would have thought £200k+/year as GP+consultant would be enough, but apparently the company will pay for their living expenses. I guess they are joint shareholders and will get paid dividends. I am not really sure I understand how they will be taxed though - their expenses will be things like hotels and so on, which aren't tax-deductible. I guess the company will just pay CT on the full amount.0
