Damp and mould

I am getting some black mould and damp smell around certain areas of my house- it is detached and therefore exposed on all sides

there is also a lot of smell around the house from the damp- the radiator in one of the bedrooms was not working which has since been fixed and it has improved the damp and smell in that room however other parts of the house are getting damp up towards the coving and towards the bottom around the skirting area

i know that there are people that come and do damp reports on a house for free but i am always doubtful of these as it is in their interest to get the work done and they make a big deal out of the situation when all that may be needed is something more simple

I also understand that there are independent companies but understand that the cost of the report through them can be quite hefty.

It has been a very wet January as we all know which has probably not helped but are there some simple measures that can be taken to reduce this without spending too much money

I was thinking to put some temporary oil filled radiators in the property as well as a dehumidifier to get rid of excess moisture and damp

the bedroom that is in the middle of the two bedrooms is fine as it is not exposed from both sides but the bedroom that are exposed on the corner have a worse problem- also the living room only has one small heater and it is about 5m x 3m and so I am assuning that is why some of this problem is occuring and with some extra heat the issue may resolve

apart from using fungicidal wash to clean the affected areas does anyone have any idea as to how to get rid of the smell of the damp and also any other steps i should take to reduce the mould and damp

thanks

can you see any obvious signs of penetrating damp , ie water coming from the outside , are the gutters and downpipes ok , is the brickwork , rendering ok
if they are ok then you need to heat up and dehumidify house , and then improve ventialtion , info here

Worth looking around the outside of the house, make sure that there is nothing bridging the damp-proof layer or holding water near the walls.

Also, are you doing anything which might increase humidity - drying clothes indoors, lack of ventilation during/after showering, cooking etc? Checked the plumbing for signs of any slow leaks?

It sounds like you have a condensation problem.
Mould will NOT grow on a wall affected by rising damp (unless there is an impervious covering between the wall and the decoration and even then it is incredibly rare)
Do you have extractors in your kitchen and bathroom?
