Scotish power cancellation fee

I was on scot power standard rate. I have just moved to co-op and have received two final bills from scot power within few days of each other. The first shows my acct in credit by £168, the second shows a cancelled electricity charge of over £158 (incl vat) for the last quarter of my acct 12/10/2013-10/01/2014 which basically wipes out my credit, nothing mentions the gas part of the dual fuel acct.

I was always under impression that scot power standard rate did not have cancellation fee!!!

Any advice, anyone aware of scot power standard rate cancellation fees???? I was expecting a healthy cheque from them!

When applying did you work out what your bills would be? Did you read your meters and approximate balances on both accounts? Is the net result correct? Final bills and next-to-final bills can have bonkers workings-out and unparseable labels. The easiest thing to do is to read your meters and estimate yourself what you should be charged.

There are no cancellation charges - it'll be a rebilling or a credit from one-fuel-to-the-other or some other arcane shenanigans.
  • Yes, I have provided the latest meter readings to co-op. They have passed them on to Scottish Power. Scottish Power bill shows the correct meter readings and the revised £158+ credit for the duel fuel bill and then shows a 'electricity cancellation charge of just over £150 leaving me with a couple of quid in credit.
I have emailed them for an explanation. lets wait and see if I get a reply. I must admit I have not received many replies from my emails to Scottish power leading up to my move to the co-op which is why I decided to move.
I have noticed that many other ex-SP clients seem to have had similar problems with SP when moving to other clients whilst in credit (delays in repaying the credit, etc). Shocking really when we have been a loyal customer to them for many years.
  • The strange thing also is that the very final bill only showed Electricity information even though it was a dual fuel contract. The credit from the dual fuel was brought forward with the electric cancellation charge added at the very end??????????
