    How is the estate being dealt with?
    There is plenty of info here:

    If it's small (less than £5K) it can be dealt with without probate.
    There are however rules to follow.

    I agree with bris that the mortgage arrears should not have been paid off.
    There are rules to follow so you can't just decide who you want to pay and who you don't want to pay.

    I appreicate this is a difficult time.
