highlight and delete stopped working

in Techie Stuff
I have absolutely no idea why but when I highlight text to either overwrite it or delete it it wont work. It used to work until a couple of weeks ago then just stopped. Has anyone any idea why this has happened and how I can put it right.

DOH sorry I should have said it is in any program.
Its ok now though as the advice in the link worked so thanks very much for that. There are no thanks buttons showing so I cant thank you like that at the moment but ill check back later.
Thanks again. I have no idea why this change happened but its sorted now.
