owed £14,700

Hi people,

My ex girlfriend owes me £14,700 can I still get this back ? I kicked my G/F out back in Feb 2013 after 9 long hard years with her.She used my credit cards 2 of them and got me into debt.Back in Sept 2012 I got PPI payout £16,000 which paid this debt in full. She used the money to pay her tax bill and other bits. She did say she pay it all back !!!

I have been unwell since March 2013 and got sectioned under the mental health act in June 2013 I am ok now but I do think I should get her to pay this money back now I am better or should I just cut my loss and move on. Any advice please.

Quite frankly I would be tempted to just forget about it. If you tell yourself the money has gone and then, If she acknowledges the debt and pays it back you will, literally, be quids in. If on the other hand she does not pay you back then there is nothing lost as the money has been forgotten about. After all the ONLY purpose for money is to give it to someone else.

Do you have any written agreement with her, or anything in writing from her admitting to owing you this money?

Have you asked her to start repayments?

I wish you the very best of luck with your mental health from now on.

Regarding the debt though, my personal advice would be to say forget about it. She won't pay it back. She probably can't.

Focus on staying well, rather than dwelling on this (large sum of) cash which has unfortunately gone.
  • Thanks people for your time in replying back.I did forget to say she got a good job now she earns £900 per week not bad ! I have not got anything in saying she owes me this money but I could ask her via text and see what she replies back.

Without any paperwork it will be very hard to prove that it was intended that the money would be repaid and so very difficult to suceed with court action.

So I would try asking her to repay to start, maybe she will be decent and agree to do so. If she doesn't then like others have posted I would try to let it go, as hard as that will be.

    £16,000 PPI. Wow!
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

My Wow was referring to the fact that you apparently had a loan of a size sufficient to attract that amount of PPI. Not the fact that you got it all back.
