Strange Pets!

Does anybody have any pets that would be classed as 'strange'?
I've really fallen in love with Axolotls and am thinking of getting one!
Do any of you have an Axolotl? Are they easy/hard to care for?
How cute is this little guy?!

We've got an 8 inch lobster. Called Mr Pinchy.
And an African Pygmy Hedgehog, called Thistle.
They are the most unusual in the menagerie, I think!!2 angels in heaven :A0 -
I've had a menagerie of animals. Used to have quite a few rats - probably at least 100 through my house (not all permanently though - I did some small-scale rehoming when I was younger). Mice, rabbits, hamsters (Syrian, Russian Dwarf, Roborovski), gerbis, guinea pigs. Some of the more unusual include a few chinchillas,a couple of degu, a jird (bit like a giant gerbil), a long-tailed lizard. I fostered some ferrets for a while, and helped transport some spiny mice from rescue to new home (and some hairless rats - very odd little things!)0

That is the best name ever for a lobster:rotfl:The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -

Do you have any knowledge or experience at keeping aquariums? If so, then an axolotl shouldn't be too difficult. Getting the aquarium set up correctly with water parameters at the optimum is probably the most difficult part. There's a very good, comprehensive guide on this website.
I'd advise only getting one though as they can be prone to attacking and eating each other! They are amazingly cute creatures but make sure you do your research first and only buy from a reputable breeder. I'd also advise joining a forum such as Caudata.org or RFUK where you'll find lots of knowledgeable people. The latter is primarily a reptile forum but there are many amphibian owners there too.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
