Mitsubishi Mirage

Are they really as bad as the press reports (especially the Top Gear one) suggest? I am impressed by the fuel economy and zero VED of even the auto (CVT) version, but is there an owner out there who would care to comment on the car as a whole?
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

I always use carsurvey.org to have a read of reviews, as these are reviews from people that actually own the car. Have a look:

None of the above surveys refer to the current Mirage.

This car is basic transport, like many very cheap cars being made for the third world (in this case in Thailand).

I would expect it to be terminally dull but thoroughly reliable, in much the same way as small, basic Mitsus always have been.

Test drive one and make up your own mind.
The only aspects of these sorts of reviews i'm ever interested in is if something is physically wrong with the cars design or reliability.

What a tester likes and what you like, bearing in mind what you are used to, are very different things.

I couldn't stand the s-max, as an example, yet top gear rave about it.

Thanks, but I'm interested in a new one, post July 2013, when Mitsubishi resurrected an old name in a brand new model.

See if you can get a 24hr or 48hr test drive from the Mitsi dealer, they may be more keen seeing as they don't have a halo model in the range anymore.

A 20min test drive isn't much use, what's it like in the city, motorway, is it comfy, nippy, have enough room, cubby holes, etc etc

Hi, My other half has got one. She has the Mirage 2 manual.
It is a nice car, lots of toys, but missing Bluetooth.
Fuel economy is Excellent -- 59mpg on a 100mile run with 1500 miles on the clock
It has a great turning circle too.

    Bad points:
It is true that the suspension is VERY soft and spongy. When hitting bumps / potholes in this car can bottom out the suspension easily, where for example in my Fiesta it does not.

Saying that she loves it. It is a pretty quick car for a 1.2 3 cylinder (Non turbo).

My recommendation as the same as others, is test drive one.

Looking around by a pre- registered one, you could save £1000's

Thanks - that's a great help and I will test drive one. I realise they're not nearly as good as a Fiesta, but Fiestas with the same level of equipment are a lot more expensive.

If Top Gear don't like something then that's a bonus as far as i'm concerned.

However many people do take notice of their odd opinions, so could have an undeserved effect on a vehicles desirability to many, that could adversely affect a vehicles used value in due course.

This is the Top Gear website, car review section, not the TV programme. But I take your point!

Haven't subjected to meself to trial by TG online fire, and perish the thought, i was thinking mainly of the magazine which is possibly not quite as bad as the TV effort.
