My sons car got clamped for keeping it on road while under sorn.
He paid the £260 for removal at 11.11 and was told clamp would be removed 2 to 4 hrs time as the car was outside his girlfriends house and in full view for him to see out the house window
He watched them remove clamp at 12.30 and drive off
He then pushed the car into a neighbours drive to be off road
He has today had a another fine of £100 to pay because the vehicle was reported as being on the road whilst a sorn was in place at 12.40
My question is ,does the clamping company inform the dvla of his offence as they were the only people near his car at this time or have they just been a bunch of (:):£;&:£ and reported him

One is a fine for not being taxed.
The other is a clamp release fee.
They are separate.0 -

This. Someone else had a similar problem recently. There is a fair bit of info about it on the forum.
Best get the chequebook out I'm afraid. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
The time the clamp was fitted i wouLd say is the time of the offence should be recorded.he paid the £260 11.11am but their letter states offence was at 12.40 pm the car had been moved at 12.30 straight after they un clamped it,
Do i have a case for appeal ?0 -
Next time keep it taxed for 12 months even if not using it! It will be cheaper than paying all these fines!!0

if you're positive they cannot produce evidence of the offence at 12.40 then I'd say Yes good grounds. The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -

My point was, it would have been cheaper to buy 12 months tax and keep it taxed, rather than sorn it but have to pay these fines, but my comment was tongue in cheek0 -
Usually they give you 24 hours after the clamp has been removed and you can bet you bottom dollar they will be back on the 24th hour with a clamp again! Contact DVLA and find out if they are connected fines for the same offence, chances are as people have already highlighted, 1 fine for clamp removal and 1 fine to DVLA for declaring SORN when cars still on the road. Lesson learnt the hard way I guess?0
