Extending out the front

Hi, we live in an end of terraced house, where the 2 end houses look similar, but the porches look different. The close we live on has different looking houses, some bungalows, some corner plots with garages etc. What are the chances of knocking down our single skin porch and extending the front of the house to have a bigger new porch and extra room on top of the new porch?
I believe we need to fill out a form and submit drawings and pay 2 fee's totalling about £180 for someone to give us guidance on if our application would be successful ..... how much does it usually cost to get plans drawn up?
Also, before we moved here someone converted the loft into a games room with windows, could we use part of our room, and have an open upstairs section with a bed up there, but the downstairs part of it would have a door but no window in the bottom room ... but permanent steps up to the loft room with the window? We have no where to add a windown for a fire exit to the bottom part of that room.

you would be best to look for someone working in your area that deals with your local authority for this type of work, most people this weather offer a free initial meeting where they could give you a much better informed opinion of what would and wouldn't get planning permission in your area.
Removing a single storey porch and replacing it with a two storey, much larger element is a fairly significant alteration so taking local advice would be best. Is there anything in your local area that has a similar set up?This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Thank you, yes I think that is best. There aren't any houses which have done exactly like what we would - but there are lots which have added on different styled porches bigger than the origional, and a lot of the houses on the estate are miss-matched so hopefully that gives us a better chance0
