PV Generation Meter in Fuse Box - Legal?

I have just had a phone call from the company that maintains the electrical network on our estate. (New build estate maintained by a company called GTC)

They have noted we have had a PV system installed and that the generation meter and isolating switches have been installed in our meter box. They are querying that this is legal or not as the meter box and meter are "technically" not our property. They have also raised concerns regarding the cable that comes down from the roof and into the box from the panels is not protected with trunking or marked accordingly?

For those of you in the know;

1. Is it safe and legal to have your generation meter / fuses in the normal meter box

2. Should the ? 100amp cable from the roof be marked and protected?

Really would appreciate some replies prior to going back to our installers.

    Just spoken to an electrician friend (nothing to do with PV installers) who is part P registered and there is nothing wrong with what the installation company has done which is good to know. Probably just had a cranky meter inspector...-

    When we built our house, electricity board were giving away meter boxes. Well not exactly giving away - I had to pay megabucks to get the cable connected - but there was no separate charge for the boxes (a friendly engineer gave me two of them). I guess they might want to claim that they're not my property although problem has never arisen.

    Nowadays I understand they expect you to buy your own box so surely there can be no question of it being owned by anyone else !

    It will be the electricity supply company's rules that they don't want any equipment but their own cluttering up the meter box. That way, if they ever want to change anything - for instance fit s smart meter - then your equipment won't get in the way.
    If it sticks, force it.
    If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
