I'm another one for the mead. A friend had it at their wedding and it went down well.
Although the origins of the word honeymoon are not known 100%, there are some suggestions that historically mead was consumed by the newly married couple in the month following the wedding, as mead is made out of fermented honey this led to the term honeymoon.
I don't know how accurate this is but it makes a nice story during the speeches.0 -
We're not having an 'extra' drink for the toast. Neither of us like champagne, we're already paying for all the drinks at the reception (not for the evening do though) so people can raise a glass of whatever they have in front of them if they want to.
Although our toasts are a bit backward, we'll be toasting all of our guests for helping us be the people we are rather than them toasting us! But the whole day is more about our friends and family than about us so perhaps not really the norm!Getting married 02.08.14
Wins for the wedding: membership for a 'wedsite' and app, £35 gift voucher for party supplies shop, £50 worth of hand painted signs, 1kg of heart shaped marshmallows :money:0 -
I was going to suggest Shloer as it's what we always have at Christmas as a non-alcoholic alternative, but it's fizzy, sorry!
In several Eastern-European countries vodka is a popular choice for a toast, would you consider this? You could have a shot glass as a favour for your guests! Of course this is an alcoholic option and quite a strong one..0 -
Ah, I would LOVE to do the vodka thing (I adore vodka, and it would be totally appropriate for me) however I shall not be consuming a lot on the day, so a shot of vodka with every toast might be a BIT much. I think general consensus is mead, so I will discuss that with The Boss (although the reception quote has just come back, and they are including a champagne reception... so um, might just leave it, as it's looking pretty cheap!)Officially saved enough to cover the cost of our wedding! :A0
