Alternatives to Champagne

I was wondering if anyone had ideas for alternatives to champagne for a toast - The Boss has insisted we have a toast drink for our guests, but I really REALLY don't like champagne, I think it's disgusting - frankly, I think all sparkling wines are pretty nasty...
And whilst TB has suggested that everyone else has champagne and I have lemonade (like the CHILD that I am), the bridezilla in me is insisting that it is MY day so why should I be forking out loads of MY money on something that I DON'T LIKE ugh - /rant
I also disagree a little bit with the forced drinking of alcohol there but that's a whole nother story.
So, in short, does anyone have any ideas for ALTERNATIVE TOAST DRINKS (that sounds SO silly, you don't DRINK toast... you eat it, with jam. Nommy) either alcoholic or not... because currently I'm close to suggesting we just have a load of slices of toast and jam made up and make everyone take a bite of their toast instead... in fact... that's a brilliant idea :-D

aside from the other fizzys...procecco and cava you could look at things like elderflower.
bottle green do some lovely ones in various flavous and colours
TBH... the act of "raising a glass to your future together" can be done just as easily and with as much meaning whether its with a beer, or wine or even glass of water.
Are there any drinks you do like...maybe even something a little alternative like cider or apple juice
How about even a lemonade based non alcoholic cocktail...just a little lemonade with a contrast of blackcurrant for example....if you dont tell the guests its no alchohol...and serve it in nice glasses, whos to know any different!!!!
Lots of fruit punch type drinks are also quite nice...pimms
Basically toast with what you like or indeed what your guests like to drink!
Dont think its got to be champagne...think about what you would like rather than what would "traditionally" be offered.frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!
2017 toiletries challenge 179 out 145 in ...£18.64 spend0 -
get a soda stream and make normal wine fizzy....0

@LEJC that sounds like a brilliant idea - I was thinking maybe mead, as we're mostly LARPers, IDK how well that would go down though - although you've just inspired me to find a 'watermelon spritzer' recipe (watermelon and pink lemonade) as both TB and I are massive watermelon fans that could be an option (wedding is mid September)
@Gonzo... I think that may have the same effect as soda streaming milk or tea... don't try it at home, you'll be sick. It's mostly the bubbles that I don't like - I can cope with bubbles in lemonade because of the sugar, but tbh, I'd rather drink flat lemonade... strange girl that I amOfficially saved enough to cover the cost of our wedding! :A0 -
How about a shot of something - tequila? ...or milkshake might be fun?!0

I'm a fan of the San Pellegrino canned fizzies - lemon, orange, blood orange amd grapefruit. They are not a child's drink (certainly not child's prices!) but refreshing with a solid citrus kick, especially the lemon & grapferuit ones.
Costco had a special on before Christmas (& I'm still working my way through my stash!), but Waitrose, Sainsburys & Tescos usually stock some of them & most do all of them online.
To flatten a glass of fizz, a small splash of boiling water usually bustles the bubbles out.
If the Boss wants his fizz, indulge him but sort your preferred tipple & be darn clear that guests are to have a choice too. Enjoy sipping your way through the possibilities, have a very happy day & a glorious life together!0 -
When is the wedding?
If it's in the winter months, how about a mulled wine? (I'm sure there are non-alcoholic mulled fruit drinks around too!). Or if it's in the summer, sangria would be nice, again I'm sure you could make a non-alcoholic fruit punch version.
EDIT: Just seen that it's in September, so dependent on the weather either of these options could work!!0 -
There are some lovely fruit wines available, or how about mead?

Oh no - you definitely can do that with Wine, I learnt it from Heston Blumenthal!
I think go for a shot instead.0 -
