I was always fine about having an indoor litter tray for our cats as it meant less muck to clear up in my own garden, let alone anyone elses. When the weather got a bit better I had an outside litter tray too, kept in a tea chest turned on it's side in a sheltered spot. It takes 30 seconds to scoop a litter tray or less than five minutes to empty one, wash it out and refill it. And it keeps everything contained. I don't know for certain of course that my cats didn't poop elsewhere as well but given the amount of poop in the trays it must have meant a reduction outside, yes?

I also made sure my cats were wormed regularly, both for their own health and everyone elses.
    Val.

Either I have to go and check every square inch and clean up any of YOUR pet's mess before DD can go out to play, or I risk her standing on it/getting it on her hands if she's looking at the flowers or whatever. It's then a job for me to keep it out of her eyes (as it could blind her), or out of my house. All because you don't want YOUR pet !!!!ping in YOUR house.
Are sure it is THEIR mangy moggy? I fathom a bet that they live quite a distance away from you, and the chances that THEIR cat has traversed many miles in order to take a dump in YOUR garden are very slim indeed.

I could be wrong, maybe the cat has a nametag with their MSE username on it.

I know my cats have no problem using MY garden, they are trained to. I have no doubt other cats may come along and invade my garden for their daily doings, as much as I can stop stray dogs using my lawn for a toilet, there is little I can do to stop the stray cats from burying theirs under my rosebushes. Thats not to forget the hedgehogs, the foxes, the field mice, squirrels and even the birds, all of which use my garden as a toilet. Its why I don't let my Son crawl under the rosebushes to go digging....just in case. ;)

The point is that the poster may have a neighbour like mine who actually objects to dealing with the effects of their choices. I suspect they wouldn't appreciate my daughter leaving a deposit on their doorstep, so why should their pet be free to do it to mine?

Erm, no. It's not about eating soil.

Lets say your mangy moggy !!!!s on my front lawn or in my flower beds. One of 2 things will happen.

Do you check for fox, squirrel, mouse, mole or bird !!!! as well? Bet there's tons of that.

Why do you even read the pets forum? Because, let's face it, you love nothing more than a chance to have a rant about cats and be pointlessly and deliberately nasty about people's beloved animals.

I dare say if its not their pet doing it, its another. That's if it is a pet at all. I imagine most cats stick with their own toilets. I have never seen a stray cat using another cats litter tray.

I know my cats use the space allocated to them and assume its only my cats, no matter how many strays I chase out of my garden each day.

I hear pepper is a good deterrent, or even cane spikes in the borders. But there is little can be done for stopping stray cats entering your garden, short of getting a big dog, leaving you with an even bigger, yet unburied pile to deal with.

Sorry I agree that cats should keep their business indoors if you can't keep it in your own garden. It is quite revolting to find it when you are gardening especially if you are not wearing gloves at the time. I wouldnt let my dog poo on your land certainly not without picking it up anyway. I like cats by the way so not a cat hater.

I don't "read the pets forum". I hit "new posts" and threads come up from all the forum.

The other animals are generally wild. My neighbour doesn't being her tropical fish out to cr.ap on other people's lawns, another's hamster is kept indoors, not left to roam.

Is it really that hard for you to understand that not everybody appreciates the "freedom" demanded for cats?

The problem is there is little if anything can be done to stop them, unlike dogs, cats are not on leashes and owners cannot take them for walkies in the park armed with a scooper.

The most any cat owner can do is train their cat to use their own little plot. Whether or not other cats come along and share it, or whether once a cat has wandered outside of its own zone it uses another neighbours garden, nobody could say one way or the other. As cats in general tend to do their own walkies and without their owners presence.

I think everybody knows that, you alone tell us often enough for it to be fairly clear.

What I don't understand is why 'wild' poo is somehow nicer and less of an issue than domesticated poo.

I hear they are a delicacy in Thailand. That's really the only way anyone could escape from their freedom.:D
