My OH is going to buy me a e-reader for my birthday however I am torn between either choosing a Nook HD or the Kindle Fire (not the HDX)
I know that both devices offer different functionalities - whilst the Nook runs on Android and the Fire uses Fire OS and that it cannot access the Google play store it download apps from the Amazon App store and are the apps from Amazon any good?
I am aware that there are more readers on the market and that I could get a Nexus but would this be as integrated as the Fire/Nook?
Suggestions please?

Not trying to be picky but strictly speaking those two are not e-readers, they are tablets.
I'm not sure what you mean by would the Nexus be as integrated as a Fire/Nook? If you got a Nexus you could download the Kindle app and the Nook app and have the best of both worlds

I agree with beanie, they're not ebook readers.
I have a Kindle Paperwhite, as a reader it's superb but doesn't do much of anything else.
If I have any criticism it would be that the battery doesn't last as long as my original Kindle that it replaced, even with the screen light turned off.
I also have a Samsung tablet and while you can use it as a reader you don't get long before the battery need charging.
In an ideal world we'd have one device to do everything but in reality specific, dedicated devices are often a lot better.
You need to decide exactly what you want and go with that. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
I actually have decided to go with the Nexus 7, I felt that it met all of my needs. But thanks two the both of you for your opinions:beer:In My 'Permanant' Pre-Masters Gap Year

Possibly to late to add my twopennyworth but I have the Nook HD and thought I would share my experience with it. Yes, it is a tablet but it is still very easy to use as a reader. I have the Kindle app on it so can access ebooks from anywhere. I have access to googleplay and all the android apps. It also has a micro-sd slot which is proving very useful for storing films. The only thing it is missing is a camera and I don't miss that at all. It does everything I want and at £79.00 I think I got a bargain!0
