I have joined your energy club and checked price comparisons all purporting to save me £££££s based on the new tarriff that i will change to when current fixed term comes to an end. they all quote my annual spend will be £975 from my current supplier yet the current supplier tells me it will be £890 so impossible to compare properly.
also some of the companies do not make it clear if the standing charge is charged ontop of the gas/electricity usage or if it is included in the KWH rate?
If I intend to reduce my usage of power would it be better going for the lowest standing charge and higher KWH rate .
Regards

Are you putting annual kWh into the comparison, anything else will produce inaccurate figures.0

If you know what your annual kwh consumption is or should be then do the sums yourself to check. Just multiply the total kwh x the tariff + the standing charge X 365 = annual cost (eg 3500kwh x £0.1153 = £403, multiply the s/c (£0.221) x 365 = 80.67, add them together = £484.215 = £40.35 a month) Do the same for gas and add them together to find out how much your total bill will be.
You should use a couple of comparison sites to find out which is the cheapest and then CHECK it before taking the plunge. It's easy to try a couple of scenarios where you can change the s/c & tariff to check what your cross over point is.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
Thanks for information on working out tarriffs.
