ppi reclaim/expiry date???

hello,
right first of all before anyone tells me so, i know i am stupid and its my own fault bla bla bla.
but basically i received a letter from hsbc back in june 13. now i remember i received the letter a day before we were moving house and it basically got read and packed away with everything else. it said i had six weeks from the date of the letter to accept their offer.
i have only just rediscovered this letter after being buried away in the loft for the last 6 months, and was wondering if that was it. am i doomed with expecting any payment now or shall i at least try??
