eon rip off

Hi i'm new here.

Some time ago i was in financial difficulty & got into debt with eon who changed my meters (gas & electric) to prepayment meters to pay off the debt & they charged me £230 per meter to change them, but its free to change them from pre-payment to normal meters i feel this is morally wrong as they are hammering the poor for profit. my question is do i have any chance of trying to claim it back?

Thanks in advance

Paul

To charge that amount it must have been by force, with the added court etc charges, rather than by consent which would have been free or around £50.

To change a credit meter to a prepayment meter is free with EON (it is also free to change from Prepayment to Credit meter providing you pass a credit check). Sounds like that charge is Court and Warrant costs as has already been stated

    Hi Ozzyio,

As molerat mentioned, the charges you mention are separate to the cost of the meter.

The meter itself would have been free. The £230 charge would've been the cost of debt collection, court fees, a locksmith (if needed) and so on.

You’re unable to claim the fee back but we won’t be asking for the charge upfront in one lump sum either. It’ll be added to the meter for us to take back over an agreed period of time.

If you haven’t already, I’d suggest you call to discuss the rate that you’re paying the charge and balance back at. If you find you’re struggling with this, we may be able to negotiate a better amount for you.

Hope this makes more sense now.
