Does anyone know, if you are made redundant and your last day is say 20th of the month , where do you stand if they pay your
redundancy and last normal salary on the usual payment date, ie the last working day of the month ?
Are there any circumstances where this is allowable ?

There is nothing wrong with that if their normal payment date is at the end of the month. There is no requirement to pay redundancy money on the last day of work.:jI am an Employment Law Paralegal and an experienced Human Resources Manager and offer my guidance as simply that ... guidance :j0

From experience no matter what date the redundancy/termination of employment happens the final pay is processed via the next available pay run and your P45 is then forwarded once the payment has been processed. So nothing to worry about with your employers they're just following their normal processing routines I would think.
Good Luck0
