Letters/cards of congratulation from Football teams etc

I just thought I would post this on the weddings board as it has been mooted by a few in response to a thread about gifts for your groom on their wedding day.
Its something that was done quite a bit by the brides on the board a few years back so I though it might be good to retrive the thread a bit and repost it now a few others have asked about getting something for their OH's
I have posted details of the original thread some of which may still be useful

If you happen to try it....and get any sucess please share it with everyone .....

Heres my reply in the thread

for those of you asking about football team congratulations...it was something that many of the B2B's did via this board a few years back...there was a thread and i'll go back anmd see if I can track it down.

Basically the general jist of it seemed to be that if you wrote to the football team usually giving good notice to allow time for them to send something back most football teams were quite accomodating and answered.

I think the sucess varied dependant on whether there was a stamped addresses return envelope in with the enquiry and I think thjat one or two even enclosed a blank "congratulations on your wedding day" card.

Sometimes I believe it was a generic thing that was returned but there were certainly a few that ended up with a card signed by the whole team/squad....quite impressive if it was a premiership club!

What to write...keep it brief but try and make it personal give the date of the wedding and yours and your husband to be's names, perhaps mention that hes a huge fan and it would really make his day complete if his favourite team could wish him well for his "big match"!

Heres the link to the original thread ...not sure how upto date any of the info is but it may help to insipire you...

I've tried Man City again, someone didn't get a very helpful reply in 2010 but it's worth a shot. :)

City are usually really helpful at these sort of things, worked for my Wedding in 2003:)

Not sure when your wedding is but have you thought about a pre-wedding message in a match day programme as well, only takes an email and if you get in early enough should be no problem, email a photo of the two of you too.

This wasn't for the wedding but me and OH are HUGE Tottenham Hotspur fans. (He even runs a spurs fansite)

I wrote to the club before his 30th birthday asking if they could possibly send a card. He ended up with a personal letter saying Happy 30th which was hand signed by our old manager Andre Villas Boas. They also included a signed picture of the manager too. I was over the moon and OH loved it!

I got an email back saying if I sent a card with a stamped addressed envelope it would be signed David Moyes! Not entirely sure if that's a good thing or not!

  • I'm quite tempted to try this for my dad's 60th in August - he has been a huge Liverpool fan all his life and it could potentially be a great birthday gift 'extra'.

For those who've done it, how far in advance did you have to send the letter?

I think its one of those things that you need to link into the football season....bearing in mind there may noy be a full team training when its off peak them I would be temped to go for it a few months before you actually need the card...

I guess its one of those things that isnt guaranteed but if something turns up then its a bonus...and if you are able to send something in the post to them with a return stamped addresswed envelope then theres a better chance of getting a positive response.

Instead of saying my dad is celebrating his birthday in August perhaps you could word it that he's celebrating a milestone birthday shortly and it would be fantasic if....that way you may get something back before the day its actually needed.

My brothers best man contacted his favourite band and they actually sent him a congratulations song! The file was a self destructing one (so it didn't end up on youtube or whatever) so he only got to hear it a couple of times but he was over the moon!
